Announcements and Other Items for Purchase
All graduates will have designated and reserved seating in the auditorium's front row (s).
The auditorium will be open for guests 30 minutes before the ceremony begins. All seating is first come, first served, and tickets will not be required.
Parking is available directly across the street, west of the auditorium. Guests should enter through the circle drive doors on the northwest side of the building. There is also a handicapped ramp at this entrance.
There will be a photographer who will be taking a photo of each candidate being pinned as they come across the stage. This will allow guests to stay seated during the ceremony. These pictures along with others taken before and during the ceremony will be available through the LCN Flickr page.
A listing of graduation candidates and/or individual photos may be posted on the website and/or forwarded to the media each semester. If a student does NOT wish for this graduation information to be published, they must opt-out of Merit.
Additional photos and/or videos will be taken at graduation and provided approximately 6 weeks following the ceremony. These photos/videos may be posted on websites and/or the College's social media sites (e.g. YouTube, Facebook, Flickr, etc.) If you prefer to NOT appear in the photos/videos you must email email@example.com prior to the date of the commencement ceremony.
The cost of the commencement attire is included in the graduation fee. This includes a custom LCN graduation gown, cap, and tassel. Gowns should be ordered through this site: http://colleges.herffjones.com/college/_lakeview/. The Following stoles will be included for those who qualify.
- Honor Society Cord - Students who have been inducted into the academic honor society may wear honor society cords over graduation regalia.
- Honor Stoles - Provided by Lakeview to select students who have met the graduation honor criteria.
There are optional stoles announcements and other items available for purchase on the website as well. The additional stoles and other items are at the graduate's expense.
Please note: Any other apparel must be approved by the administration prior to graduation.
Ceremony honors are calculated prior to the commencement ceremony and do not include the most current semester's coursework; therefore, the ceremony honors are not considered official honors and will not appear on the academic transcript or diploma. Since ceremony honors do not include the current semester's coursework, those honors may differ from the official academic honors calculated when the degree is conferred.
Honors are assigned based on the GPA criteria listed below.
- 3.4 - 3.59 GPA Cum Laude
- 3.6 - 3.79 GPA Magna Cum Laude
- 3.8 - 4.00 GPA Summa Cum Laude
College Pinning Ceremony and Pins
Lakeview incorporates the traditional nursing pinning ceremony into the degree ceremony. The cost of the pin is included in the graduation fee. The pinning ceremony is a time-honored nursing school tradition. It signifies an official initiation into this noble profession. The symbolism of this rite of passage can be traced as far back as the Crusades of the 12th century.
The modern ceremony evolved in the 1860s when Florence Nightingale was awarded the Red Cross of St. George in recognition of her tireless service to the injured during the Crimean War.
By 1916, the practice of pinning new graduates was standard throughout the United States to honor their dedication, hard work, excellence, and completion of their nursing program. Every nursing program has a unique pin. The pin identifies the school, indicates the graduates' successful program completion, and that the wearer is a professional nurse. It is a symbolic welcome to the profession.
Graduates can have a close friend or family member pin them if that individual is a Registered Professional Nurse. Graduates must provide the individual's name to be announced when the candidate crosses the stage.
Diploma covers will be distributed at commencement. Diplomas will be mailed approximately 4- 6 weeks after commencement when an audit of the student's record is complete (all transfer credits are received, and all Lakeview grades are posted). Students who received financial aid will be required to complete exit counseling before anything can be released.
Petition to Graduate
Graduates must submit their petition to graduate form within the first two weeks of the semester in which they plan on graduating.
A survey will be distributed to all potential graduates and must be completed and submitted at least 3 weeks prior to Commencement. This survey information is used for publication as well as to provide information about each graduate to be read as they walk across the stage at the commencement ceremony.
All graduates are encouraged to participate in a pre-graduation individual photo. This is included in the standard graduation fee. Graduation candidates will be notified of the date and time for the photo via email. This typically occurs at the end of the semester. Following the photo shoot, the photos will be digitally available to students to share and print as desired.
*We plan to broadcast the ceremony on Facebook Live through our LCN Facebook Page. The entire graduation ceremony may also be posted on Lakeview's YouTube channel approximately 2-4 weeks following the ceremony.
