Several Lakeview College of Nursing students volunteered at Camp New Hope this fall. Camp New Hope is a year-round recreational experience for those who are eight years old and above with developmental and physical disabilities. Their annual Fall Family Fun Fest is a fundraiser to benefit the camp and generate funds to allow for financial assistance for families. The event includes a 5K fun run/walk, a car show, inflatables, carnival games, food trucks, boat and train rides, and music.
This fall, several Lakeview College of Nursing students volunteered to help with the Special Olympics Family Festival at Lake Land Community College in Mattoon, IL. The mission of the Special Olympics of Illinois is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
