CARES Act
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, passed in March 2020, included significant provisions for higher education institutions and students responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. It established the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF), allocating approximately $14 billion to colleges and universities. At least half of the funds received by each institution were required to be distributed as emergency financial aid grants directly to students facing hardships due to the pandemic. Institutions could use the remaining funds to cover costs associated with significant changes to the delivery of instruction and campus operations. This act aimed to support the higher education sector during unprecedented disruption and financial strain. Students faced disruptions to their academic progress, financial hardship, and mental health challenges. The reports below demonstrate how Lakeview College of Nursing expended HEERF funding.
