Tayelor Lowe

2024 Applicant

Transfer Merit Scholarship Recipient

Lakeview College of Nursing (LCN) awarded a transfer merit scholarship valued at $20,000 to Tayelor Lowe of Danville, IL.

She was chosen among the many qualified applicants based on her outstanding academic record, according to Amy McFadden, LCN Scholarship Committee Chair.

Lowe is the daughter of Corey and Kathryn Lowe of Danville, IL. She is a 2023 graduate of Bismarck-Henning Rossville-Alvin Cooperative High School.

She has attended Danville Area Community College in Danville, IL, to complete the necessary preliminary coursework to transfer in the fall of 2024 to pursue a bachelor of science in nursing degree from LCN.

Lowe was very appreciative of the scholarship award. She explained that she is honored that she gets to start the nursing program this fall with her sister and is proud of the work that led her to this point. "It is also such a rewarding feeling knowing that the countless hours of work that I have put through school over the past five years has led me to this moment," said Lowe.

She is looking forward to helping people in her career as a nurse and credits her mom for being instrumental in her decision to pursue nursing. Lowe explained, "While she (my mom) has experienced many rough days over the course of fifteen years as a nurse, she has told me that it has been an indescribable feeling knowing that she, too, gets to help so many patients," said Lowe.  She added, "I am just so excited to be able to help people."

In the future, Lowe sees herself pursuing pediatric nursing, either as a developmental nurse or working in an emergency department. "As someone who loves kids and lives for the thrill, I think these pathways would be the perfect opportunity for me," said Lowe.

She also wants to share her talents through volunteering. "I also have a plan to do a lot of volunteer work. I can not only use my skills as a nurse, but I can also support my aspirations," said Lowe.

McFadden said the College's scholarship committee seeks to reward and encourage high-achieving transfer students. She is grateful that the College's board of directors is committed to providing financial assistance to its students.

"The funding for this scholarship, as well as the funding for our transfer financial need-based scholarship, was made available through a wise long-term investment strategy spearheaded by former CEO Dick Shockey and current College President Sheila Mingee," added McFadden.

The scholarship award will assist Lowe with the cost of tuition, books, and necessary supplies for Lakeview's bachelor of science in nursing degree program.
